AADE16 Recap

By Kendall Smith, MPH posted 08-31-2016 20:43

Greetings AZAADE Members,

The sun has set on another successful national meeting, and AADE16 was one for the books!  As our 2016 AADE President, Hope Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, FAADE, so eloquently shared, “Health care in general is evolving rapidly, and this evolution is having a huge impact on the roles of diabetes educators and the delivery of diabetes self-management education and support (DSMES).  AADE and all of its members are playing a crucial role in this evolution…..embracing this evolution is a key to the successful future of our profession.”  Thus, the annual theme for AADE16:  Embrace Change, Strengthen Our Future, Celebrate!

With several different ‘tracks’ available, a plethora of information awaited us in sunny San Diego:

  • Advance skills for Program and Business Management for Entrepreneurial Organizations
  • Build Skills to Provide Diabetes Education and Support within Evolving Healthcare Systems
  • Innovative Diabetes Care and Education Across Diverse Populations
  • Pathophysiology, Epidemiology, and Clinical Management of Prediabetes, Diabetes and Related Chronic Conditions
  • Psychosocial Issues and the Promotion of Lifestyle Behavior Change
  • Pioneer Diabetes Technologies and Connected Health Modalities to Deliver Cost-Effective Care

What sessions did you attend where you learned something new, sparked an area of interest or learned something innovative that you’ve applied in your daily practice?

Along with sessions, AADE16 offered a variety of customer appreciation and networking events.  Thank you to those who stopped by the Arizona CB table at the Networking Reception to say ‘hello!’  In addition to these events, AZAADE also hosted its first Happy Hour Networking Event at an AADE annual meeting!  With a great turnout, of nearly 35 members from across the state of Arizona, we had an opportunity to meet new colleagues, share ideas and provide valuable feedback to board members about what you’d like to see in the future for AZAADE.  A huge THANK YOU to everyone who made it out to the Happy Hour event—each and every person who attended helped in making it a huge success!

Personally, I left AADE16 feeling re-energized and re-inspired in my role as a diabetes educator!  We’d love to hear from YOU, our members, on your biggest highlights from AADE16!

A couple additional tidbits of information:

  • It’s not too soon to start thinking about AADE17! Save The Date:  AADE17 will be Friday 8/4/2017 through Monday 8/7/2017 at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis, IN.  Registration and more details to come at a later date.

Enjoy the rest of summer!
