AADE New Year’s Resolution Getting More Involved As 2017 comes to a close I would like to say thank you to each and every member of AADE for all that you do on a daily basis to care for those with diabetes. With that said I would like to encourage you to make a resolution to become more involved in 2018. As Kim Sinclair has brought to our attention in previous blogs this organization is “fueled by volunteers”. Each and every one of us has an opportunity to make a difference within AADE, which ultimately will impact that care we provide to our patients. So when considering your New Year’s resolutions why not make 2018 the year you decide to become ...

Coordinating Body

On behalf of GA AADE, I would like to thank Dawn Taylor of Valdosta, for her leadership for the Coordinating Body over the past year. This organization as you know is "fueled by volunteers" and Dawn has spent countless hours keeping us on track. Even as I have agreed to step into this position for the coming year, she has agreed to stay on as chairman, emeritus as I begin to find my way. Thank you Dawn for all the countless hours you have invested. A special thank you is also due to the other members of the coordinating body who have actively volunteered, some for many years. Their "corporate" knowledge and technical expertise has been invaluable to our ...

We have a new Local Networking Group (LNG) that was created by Hannah Day and Mandy Reece! This is very exciting news for us Georgia Peaches! Remember, if you are not involved in an LNG in your area and wish to get involved you can search for one close to you via MyAADE Network under State Network or contact a Coordinating Body Member. Being involved in an LNG provides you with great learning opportunities and it is also a wonderful way to meet colleagues in your area and attend networking events and educational dinners! If there isn’t an LNG by you, then you can create one with some colleagues. The Coordinating Body is here to help you develop one so you ...

It’s almost that time!!! What are you looking forward to seeing or doing at AADE 17? Have you been checking out the commercials created by our fellow members? If not please take a few minutes to check them out - http://www.aademeeting.org/make-arrangements-aade17/ . Some are especially funny and cute! Check out “Kentucky on the Road to AADE17” or “Superheroes Coming to Indianapolis” . Seems like our cohorts had great fun putting these together. Anyone headed in early to take in one of the preconference Symposia – Sustaining your Diabetes Education Program, Pharmacology Boot Camp or Best Practices for the National Diabetes Prevention Program ...

Here is great food for thought from one of our Atlanta Coordinating Body Members! Be an Inspiration to All, Including Yourself! How long have you been a diabetes educator? One year? 15 years? How do you stay motivated in order to inspire behavior change in your patients or staff? If you are reading this blog, then you are a role model to your patients and most likely to your family as well. Finding inspiration and joy in every day existence can be trying. Being human equates to life stress: family, relationships, health, job and even traffic (if you live in Atlanta!). There is nothing like traveling to make you feel inspired and grateful ...

Blogging Etiquette

If you are like me, I wondered, “what’s a blog”? Blogs are web-logs, informative news or articles about specific topics. So what are some basic rules of etiquette for blogging? Here is some commonsense pointers from Dr. Dave and Dr. Dee ( http://www.drdaveanddee.com/blogetiquette.html) : Respect the views of other bloggers. You can have a dissenting opinion and still be respectful. Before you hit submit, re-read your entry. Never reply with personal attacks. Discuss issues in a mature manner. Refrain from using foul or vulgar language; it turns people off Apologize if you make a mistake or give erroneous information Use correct ...

Those are such great questions! Let's break it down a bit: AADE stands for American Association of Diabetes Educators. Wow! All of America?! How does such a large, national organization help people all the way down in Georgia? Well, that's where the CB comes into play. The CB stands for the Coordianting Body. The CB is a state level arm of AADE that helps every state communicate, benefit, learn from and plan with AADE. The CB is usually a small group of volunteers (Georgia currently has 4 CB Members) who work for about 2 years to improve things from state wide conferences to start up and continuations of LNGs. LNG stands for Local Networking Group. ...

As Georgia AADE membership and activity continues to grow, we encourage you to take a look at all the great things AADE has to offer. The MyAADE Network may not seem particularly user friendly at first, but with a little looking around, you'll discover that there are many ways to use it to your benefit! Not only can you use it to receive updates from your local, state, and national leadership teams, you can also use it to talk about important issues or ask questions to other members. Did you meet someone at a networking event but didn't get their email address? You can also look up AADE members from all over the United States! Check out the posting below ...
