It’s almost that time!!!  What are you looking forward to seeing or doing at AADE 17?  Have you been checking out the commercials created by our fellow members?  If not please take a few minutes to check them out - http://www.aademeeting.org/make-arrangements-aade17/.  Some are especially funny and cute!  Check out “Kentucky on the Road to AADE17” or “Superheroes Coming to Indianapolis”.  Seems like our cohorts had great fun putting these together.

Anyone headed in early to take in one of the preconference Symposia – Sustaining your Diabetes Education Program, Pharmacology Boot Camp or Best Practices for the National Diabetes Prevention Program, How to Select or Create Materials your Patients will Actually Understand, Activity RX for Prediabetes and Management of Type 2 diabetes – if you are anxious to get a jump start of your learning experience please check for openings in these “extra sessions”.

Hopefully, you are all planning to be there in time for the Coordinating Body and community of Interest Networking Reception! Thursday at 5 pm.  Five of your Georgia CB Members will be at AADE this year and we are all excited about talking to each one of you!!  We have some cool things for you so please be a peach and stop by and say “Hello” to Katie, Britt, Kim, Glenda and Dawn.

Is your Twitter account prepped and ready to talk about all of the exciting news??  Facebook will be great place to post some amazing pictures!!!

Things will officially take the green flag Friday morning with the KEYNOTE address of our president – Nancy D’Hondt, RPH, CDE, FAADE.  Some really great sessions will follow:  New Models of Care:  Diabetes and the Triple Aim will be one session I will check out, as a manager of a diabetes program I need all of the insight I can get on what the future holds and how to prove the value of my diabetes education program.  Hoping Dr. Gabbay will be able to fuel my brain in this area.

Dr. Polansky will be speaking on Sharing Evidence Based Hope.  I am sure many of you are familiar with Dr. Polansky – his talks always inspire me and help me understand what motivates patients to make behavior changes.

Maybe some of you are looking for food inspirations – Check out Marlene Koch’s presentation “Anatomy of a Recipe:  Creating Professionally-Crafted Recipes that Resonate.”  Maybe you will be inspired to create a healthy food blog for your patients. . . .

Do you prescribe medications for your patients or are you the one who must try to get a prior authorization for a medication?  Maybe you should check out Sandra Bollinger’s presentation on “What to do about Rejected Medication and Reimbursement Claims”.

Mary de Groot is a familiar name for me – she contributed to many of the articles I read while working on my thesis on Diabetes and Depression.  I will definitely want to check out her talk on “Screening for Diabetes Distress and Depression:  What should the Diabetes Educator do?”

Whatever you are looking to add under your hood – dosing with the Dexcom 5, different teaching techniques, complications of the ear, over the counter medications, oral health, hybrid closed loop insulin pump, Seniors and diabetes, or many others there will be a session for you.

Posters, posters and more posters – an amazing variety of topics – Cycloset Unique Insulin Sensitizer, Diabetes Teaching Tools for Clinical Nurses, Exercise Guidance Based on Real Time Glucose, Pathophysiology of Diabetes Mellitus and Vitamin C Deficiency, ‘Flatbush’ Diabetes:  A Variant of the Typical classification.

And of course don’t forget the Exhibit Hall – Wow!!  There are at least 180 vendors in the starting lineup!!!  Great place to learn about new products and coming technology.  And of course there will be lots of snacks and treats.

Guess I better go start packing!!!  Please take a minute and let us all know which sessions you will be attending and what you are hoping to see in a INDY!!!
