AADE2013 Highlights

One of my favorite sessions took place on Friday morning at the general session. The topic title was "Guided Imagery and the New Mind-Body Breakthroughs in Diabetes Care" The speaker was a psychotherapist and author, Belleruth Naparstek, LSW, BCD. She reviewed the latest research related mind-body resources with a focus on program ideas and practice solutions for stress, fitness and sleep. Later, the suthor was available at the AADE Bookstore for a book signing and dialogue with members. Her ideas are very practical and can be found in her book and Guided Imagery CD. I had the opportunity to purchase the book and CD followed by a personal meeting with the author! I plan to use some of her solutions at my Metabolic Syndrome Bootcamp during the stress management discussion. This was just one example of how we can take home so many resources from the AADE Annual Conferences.

Please share your own experiences and take home Annual Meeting messages, resources and materials. Other members will certainly appreciate your efforts.

AADE 2013 Highlights

Hi Elaine,

Thanks so much for your post! I attended Tuesday’s pre-conference session, “Social Media For Diabetes: Step Up to the Genius Bar” hosted by David Edelman, Diabetes Daily,

Manny Hernandez, Diabetes Hands Foundation,

Amy Tenderich, MA, DiabetesMine.com and

Hope Warshaw, MMSc, RD, CDE, BC-ADM, Hope Warshaw Associates, LLC

This expert panel discussed the benefits of using social media to support our patients, engage with our patients online, and enhance our professional development. For me, the best part of the day was the small group “break-out” sessions where we were able to discuss one social media topic in-depth, such as blogging.

I learned to be authentic and transparent when writing a blog, and that a small group of loyal and engaged users is a good measure of success!

I will use what I learned in that session to better connect with fellow diabetes educators in my blog.
