Our first book club book is I Hate to Exercise for People with Diabetes by Charlotte Hayes. Here are our discussion questions below. Please click the "reply" button to respond to the thread and start a discussion! Thank you very much for your participation!

  1. What do you think is the most useful information or advice given in this book? How might you use this information to help you with your patients who struggle with activity?
  2. Is there any information presented in this book you disagree with or don't think is helpful? What advice would you substitute or encourage instead to take its place?
  3. On page 2 of the book, the author states "Exercise is the magic bullet...and solution to most health problems." Do you agree or disagree with this statement? How do you think this idea could help or hurt your patients?
  4. Some professionals use the term "intentional activity" when talking about physical activity - indicating activity needs to be in addition to regular activities of daily living. In this book, the author counts activities such as housecleaning and yard work towards total daily minutes of physical activity. How do you encourage your patients to count minutes of activity? Do you think using ADLs towards activity minutes is helpful or hurtful?
  5. Personally, what do you choose to do for activity? Do you have a preference for small bouts of daily activity or one large bout of activity?
  6. What have you found works best for you when incorporating physical activity into your life? How have you made activity a habit in your life?
  7. Did you try any of the activities or sample work outs provided in the book? What did you think of these activities?
  8. Do you see any potential limitations for any of your patients trying to use the suggested activities? How you suggest modifying the provided activities to fit your patients' needs?
