Diabetes Research Petition

By Courtney Slater posted 09-18-2017 09:27

I received the below email from the American Diabetes Association. I signed the petition - it just took me a few seconds. If you would like to help prevent funding being cut from research, please use the information below to add your name to the petition. You also have the opportunity to pass the petition along to others you think may be interested. There is also information at the bottom for how you can help victims of the hurricanes.

We launched our diabetes research petition recently, and we were thrilled to get over 10,000 signatures in just a couple days. HOWEVER, CONGRESS STILL NEEDS TO ACT QUICKLY TO ENSURE THAT DIABETES RESEARCH DOES NOT HALT IF FUNDING IS NOT PASSED.

Will you take the next step with us:

1. Sign the petition at stopdiabetes.com/diabetesresearch, if you haven't already.

2. Then, amplify your voice by asking your friends and family to visit  stopdiabetes.com/diabetesresearch to add their names. To make it easy, forward the text below to your friends and family and post to your social networks:

I just signed the American Diabetes Association's medical research petition to Congress. Please join me and sign the petition at  stopdiabetes.com/diabetesresearch.

The United States has always been a leader in medical research, but the White House and Congress are considering greatly reducing the funding for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control (CDC). That’s why we need you, and everyone who cares about people with diabetes, to sign our petition and say “prioritize diabetes research!”

Federal research has led to a better understanding of the triggers of diabetes, the first hybrid insulin pump, the first clinical trial of a precision medicine approach to individualize diabetes treatment, and the identification of subtypes of insulin-producing beta cells. There are many opportunities for research to continue improving the lives of people with diabetes. We must increase, not reduce, the funding for diabetes research now. The stakes are too high and we’ve come too far.

Together for diabetes research,

Joe Franco
Vice President, Grassroots and Internal Advocacy
American Diabetes Association
