Hello, Iowa!
Have any of you been recently following the DMR editorials about the rising cost of insulin? If you haven't, there have recently been 2 fantastic articles! After the first article was published, an Iowa lawmaker (who also happens to be a Pharmacist) made some comments about how if PWDs took better care of themselves, they wouldn't need insulin. A follow-up editorial was then published cautioning against blaming the patient for being sick!
Article 1: Being diabetic is becoming unaffordable (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/editorials/2017/06/28/editorial-being-diabetic-becoming-unaffordable/432004001/)
Article 2: Blaming sick people does not lower drug costs (http://www.desmoinesregister.com/story/opinion/editorials/2017/07/04/editorial-blaming-sick-people-does-not-lower-drug-prices/446882001/)
I would like to hear your thoughts on these articles and how you can use this information in your daily practice. Let's start a conversation around insulin affordability and empathy in healthcare! Share your thoughts and feelings with us here!
