Friday, August 9, 2019 was opening session day of AADE19. This was a fun day pack with lots of the latest evidence based information regarding diabetes. Starting the opening session was the President's Address by Karen Kemmis. She introduced the new name change from Diabetes Educator to Diabetes Care and Education Specialist. Next was the general session titled An Approach to Targeting Vulnerable Populations for Primary Prevention:Houston Cities Changing Diabetes. Followed by the break out sessions, I had an opportunity to attend Bright Spots and Landmines:A diabetes Toolkit for Meaningful Behavior Change. This session was presented by Adam Brown, Senior Editor, diabTribe.org. He explained 42 factors actually can affect blood glucose. He goes on to describe what are the bright spots and how to make more bright spots each day. He spells out what are Landmines and what to learn from Landmine situations in order to better control blood glucose. Food, Mindset, Exercise and Sleep were the four cornerstones Adam identified for helping him to better control his blood glucose. The 42 factors and cornerstones are listed in the handouts for this session. If you were not able to attend AADE19 the handouts are available at diabeteseducator.org then go to AADE 19.
