Helping Persons with Diabetes by Helping You be Successful

Quick - how many patients do you see in a diabetes class each month? With Mississippi leading the country in persons with diabetes, could you squeeze in a few more patients?

If diabetes self-management education / training is the place persons with diabetes need to visit, consider the following:

  1. Do people who need what your offer, know they need what you offer? Most folks know that if you need groceries you go to a grocery store or shoes you go to a shoe store. If you have a prescription from the doctor, you seek the services of a pharmacist. Do persons with diabetes know they need diabetes self-management education / training (DSME/T)?
  2. Let’s say every person with diabetes knows they need DSME/T. Do people know you are the DESTINATION need to seek? Do they know all the services you have to offer? Do the providers who write the DSME prescription know every patient needs DSME/T? Do the providers know they’re suppose to write a prescription? Do they know “how” to write it?
  3. Let’s continue to work this issue down the road and accept all the patients and all the providers know DSME is a needed service and how to write the prescription. Do you understand what you must do to be paid for the service? Is being paid for your services important?

Currently there are 37 CMS certified diabetes education sites: 15 AADE DEAP + 22 ADA ER. During the last 12 months, three sites have closed their doors. Unfortunate for the many patients needing what those sites offer. Painful for the credentialed diabetes educators who were removed from these positions.

MS-AADE advocates for diabetes educators . . . all diabetes educators. When MS-AADE advocates for diabetes educators, persons with diabetes are the big winners.

So help us out here - what would benefit your diabetes education site most?

. . . promoting the value of DSME/T to patients or providers?

. . . supporting you in developing referral forms, DSME documentation records, interpretation of DSME/T standards?

. . . support with coding?

. . . someone driving referrals in your site’s direction?

Let us know how we can help you be more successful.
