Community/Support Group presentation ideas -- got any?

I guess it's because it's this time of the year, when there is so much else going on in our personal & professional lives, that I am feeling stagnant about ideas for support group presentations. Many of us get asked to be speakers for various community groups, as well as Support group type gatherings at our own work facilities. Most of the time, attendees at these programs think that it can take the place of a "class" or Educator appoinment, so we don't want to "give away the store" but entice them to want to know more about their diabetes health. Of greatest difficulty is usually the time constraints and limited Staff availability. At our facility at St Anthony's Medical Center, we offer a "live" support grp meeting on a quarterly basis, & we have an on-line blog (www.Talk-Diabetes.org) that receives several "likes" & comments from our Subscribers. What are your ideas for 2014? What have you done in the last 2 years that was successful? What are the "buzz topics" your clients are talking about?

I know there some very creative thinkers in our group of Educators, so please share your good news!

Support group ideas

We have a Carbohydrate bingo game we use at camp. I can lend it to you anytime (except first two weeks of June!) Dollar store items make great prizes! It can last as long as you like; often the group wants to "keep playing" after someone gets BINGO, or sometimes go for BLACKOUT!  : )

Community Presentations.

I like to go to community groups that just , "need a speaker".  I like to start off asking how many people have someone in their family with  diabetes.  We have  just discussed the genic link.  Then using a screening tool in which the audience identifies their risk factors.  I then move into what can we as a community do to prevent or delay diabetes, and how good health can bring positives to a community.  If I have a table at a fair,  I raffle a basket of fresh vegetables. People love this, and for children I used playdough in a baking pan as brownies and they cut what they thought were portion sizes!  the children learned , the moms learned and I learned alot also !
