Since the inception of The AADE/My AADE Network in January 2011, the Missouri Coordinating Body (CB) Volunteer Leadership Team has had a rich history of actively representing our Members to the national Organization.  Over these years, the Missouri CB has received accolades from, and been recognized, by national AADE in various ways. Some of your Volunteer Leaders have been invited by AADE, to represent Missouri by authoring articles for the national Leadership Newsletter, the general Members’ e-FYI newsletters, & have participated in national Panel Discussions.

We need YOU! Please consider continuing this elite Missouri legacy by sharing your time, talents, enthusiasm, and passion, as a Missouri Volunteer CB Leader. Two Founding Volunteer Leaders will be stepping down from their CB Leadership roles December 31st: Mary Lawrence, MSN, RN, CDE (Maryland Heights/St Louis), current Chair, and Nancy Trebilcock, BSN, RN, CDE (Wentzville/St Louis), current Web Admin/Technology Leader. We are very honored and pleased that Clair Welsh, RN, CDE (Kansas City) will be assuming the role of Chair, and Leisa Blanchard, APRN, FNP-C, CDE (Lamar) will continue as Advocacy Representative. Mary will continue to support the CB as Member-at-Large; Nancy will serve as Consultant/assist of the Web Admin role.  Missouri’s most urgent CB needs are: Co-Chair, Web Admin, and Finance Leader. We also appreciate Regional Representatives for the Northeast, Southwest, and Southeast areas of the State.

The Missouri CB Board is hosting an informational meeting in Columbia, January 28, 2017, 10am to 2pm (lunch will be provided). This time of year can be tricky for traveling, but we wanted to wait until after the national Coordinating Body Leadership Training Forum, occurring in Chicago on January 13th and 14th. The goal of the Columbia meeting is to meet your current Leaders and help clarify any questions about the Missouri CB activities; job descriptions/duties of each of the major Offices will be available. The meeting location is: Columbia Public Library, 100 W. Broadway, Columbia, Mo 65203. Please RSVP to: Clair Welsh at brk2wld@yahoo.com , subject line: Columbia Leaders meeting; by January 10th; include your name, phone number, email address, & any dietary restrictions. If you are interested in assisting the CB, but can’t attend the meeting, contact Clair with the same info.

Per AADE: “A Coordinating Body is a volunteer team of peers from around the state who together identify the priorities for meeting members’ needs (why and what), set the course for activities within the state (how), allocate funds, and serve as the primary contact to the national Organization. The Coordinating Body operates as a self-directed team sharing equally in responsibility, making decisions by consensus”.  In the past, the majority of the Missouri CB Leadership Team has been from the Kansas City& St Louis areas.  Our goal is to encourage input/dialogue/service that represents Members from areas all around the State. REQUIREMENTS: Our past history is that we try to have 1 to 2 "in-person/face to face" meetings, in mutually agreeable location (as space is offered to us/is financially reasonable/available); past locations have been Columbia, Springfield, Kansas City, Joplin. On average we have phone conference calls about every 2 to 3 months, about an hour duration.  Other duties will include posting a discussion thread via the Missouri Discussions Forum (minimum of 2 per year), and participation in State or National AADE events, as able.  We have sponsored a Professional Education Program every 2 years. BENEFITS: The most important benefit is contacts with hundreds of Educator Colleagues!  All CB Officers are entitled to receive the national Volunteer Leader e-Newsletter. Communications from/with Leaders from around the Country is provided by the Leaders’ Announcements Forum, as well as the Leaders’ online Discussions Forum. As Volunteer CB Leaders, there are a variety of on-line tutorials, How-to Guides, and other Leadership tools, via the AADE Volunteer Resource Center, to assist us in performing the duties of the various offices. We also use the guidance of the national AADE Leadership Manual. Possible INCENTIVES for your participation may include paid registration fee to the annual Leaders Training Forum/Chicago, paid registration fee to the annual/August Education Program, or one year paid Membership dues, for a minimum one year of CB service.  Plus, having this Volunteer work listed on your AADE Scholarship applications may prove very useful, as well as enrich your Professional Resume!

Please, let’s work together to help the AADE/Missouri CB continue to be a great example of how we can promote our Members and therefore, promote quality diabetes Education! Thank YOU for your consideration.
