2016 MO CB Accomplishments: On the Road Again

January: AADE Leadership Meeting, Chicago, IL: Two day meeting focused on advocacy, program development, membership engagement, and AADE strategic goals.MO CB (Coordinating Body) Representatives: Mary Lawrence, MSN, RN, CDE Clair Welsh BSN, RN, CDE, and Leisa Blanchard FNP-C, CDE
February: MO CB Board Meeting, Kansas, MO: Annual face to face meeting for program and budget planning. MO CB Board: Mary Lawrence (chair), Clair Welsh (finance), and Leisa Blanchard (advocacy) and Nancy Trebilcock, BSN, RN, CDE (web administration). “Conversations with MO CB Leaders”, Kansas City, MO: Networking event with Educators from the Kansas City and surrounding area at a popular Westport restaurant/bar. Kansas City LNG educators were able to plan a future networking and CE webinar event for April 2016. MO CB Attendees: Mary Lawrence, Clair Welsh, and Leisa Blanchard and Nancy Trebilcock. Launch of AADE Missouri Coordinating Body- Facebook Page: Thank you to: Andrew Bzowyckyj, PharmD, BCPS, CDE, Kansas City, for taking the lead in this task.
March: 4-State APN 10th Annual Conference, Joplin, MO: MO CB Representative: Leisa Blanchard. Leisa attended the conference and distributed AADE brochures and information regarding the CB-sponsored Professional Education Program: “Diabetes Care ‘Show-Me' State Summit, 2016”, scheduled for October 2016.
APN Education Conference, Columbia, MO: MO CB Representative: Clair Welsh. Clair had a display table and distributed AADE brochures and information regarding the CB-sponsored Professional Education Program: “Diabetes Care ‘Show-Me' State Summit, 2016”, scheduled for October 2016.
May: AADE Advocacy Meeting, Chicago, IL: This meeting provided an Intense focus on advocacy and communication with national and state legislators. Presentations from the former governor of Illinois, Pat Quinn, and other legislators who have worked on diabetes laws and issues in their state. MO CB Representatives: Leisa Blanchard and Mary Lawrence.
August: AADE 2016, San Diego, CA: MO CB board participated in the annual Networking CB and COI (community of interest) event held the evening before the National conference by hosting a display table and distributing chocolate in the shape of our state. Programs attended by your Board included the annual business meeting, AADE Foundation event, poster session (with several Missouri member’s work on display) and volunteer Leader reception. Missouri members gathered Monday before the first general session to watch Andrew Bzowyckyj receive AADE’s 2016 Rising Star Award. September: Missouri Diabetes Council, Columbia, MO: The Missouri Diabetes Council evolved from the Missouri Diabetes Control and Prevention Advisory Board which was at one time funded by the CDC. The MDC now meets semi-annually and has representation from statewide non-profit organizations with an interest in diabetes (ADA, AADE, JDRF, etc.) and the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services. Other state offices with a connection or interest in diabetes send representatives to the all-day meeting. (Tobacco, heart, insurance etc.). MO CB Representatives: Leisa Blanchard and Mary Lawrence.
October: Diabetes Care “Show-Me” State Summit, St. Louis, MO: All day Professional Education conference which provided 7 CEs plus commercial and non-profit vendor displays. 102 Diabetes educators, dietitians and other healthcare providers attended from around Missouri and Illinois. A special thanks to those who helped with the conference, our speakers, and vendors and to our attendees. National AADE Leadership audio call, October 19th: This audio presentation was a Panel Discussion regarding the topic: “Preparing for a Successful Leader Transition.” Panel Members shared suggestions for making a successful transition with their respective State CB &/or COI. The audio session covered: goals of an effective transition process; identifying the AADE Volunteer resources that will assist in the leader transition process, tips for successfully transitioning their incoming leaders. MO CB Representative: Nancy Trebilcock was one of 3 Panel Members/Speakers.
November: Region VII Diabetes Summit, Columbia, MO: Nancy Trebilcock, MO CB Representative, provided a power-point presentation on DSME programs in Missouri and participated in a panel discussion regarding access to diabetes education.
Missouri Diabetes Shared Learning Network, Jefferson City, MO: Ruth Mencl, RN, MN, CDE, CPT, MO CB Representative, participated in a new collaborative sponsored by the Missouri Hospital Association. The goal of this group is to develop and implement a statewide system on shared learning and collaboration to increase prevention and care for people with diabetes.
December: National Volunteer Leaders Newsletter: December ‘16/January ’17 issue: Missouri CB Representative: Nancy Trebilcock. Nancy authored an article in this newsletter titled: “When Opportunity Knocks, Is Your Advocacy Elevator Speech Ready? The article was generated as a result of her meeting with her local state Representative. She was asked to share how the meeting opportunity was generated, how I prepared for it, what we discussed, materials shared in that meeting, and subsequent follow-up.
AADE 3rd and 4th quarter network incentive prize (s) goes to the MO CB! The MO CB fulfilled the My AADE Network requirements set forth by AADE for the 3rd and 4th quarter time frame. Requirements include posting of announcements, State/Missouri discussions, blogs and calendar items, on the Missouri/AADE home page. (We are always looking for members who would like to submit a blog article). The MO CB earned a $400 credit towards an Officer’s registration fee for AADE17, in Indy, and a room at the convention to host a meeting or networking event. More to follow on regarding the CB’s plans. Special thanks to MO CB Leader: Nancy Trebilcock in her tireless efforts in helping the CB earn these recognitions and incentives.
