Five CDEs visited their Missouri Senators and Representatives in Jefferson City, April 18th and were cordially welcomed by Mike Kelley of the 127th District of Missouri. On the floor of the Senate, he introduced Clair Welsh, our CB Leader. He welcomed the American Association of Diabetes Educators on their visit and described our objective: bringing awareness to the legislators of the impact of diabetes in their districts, and providing statistics on prevalence and the cost of living with diabetes. He noted that the group wanted to emphasize the value of certified diabetes educators in lowering the cost through education. The five ( Clair, Leisa Blanchard, Susan Felten, Rebecca Sidberry, and Joan McGinnis) visited their Senators and Representatives offering themselves as a Resource to the legislators, providing input on chronic disease, especially diabetes. It was an informative for those on their 1st or many visits to the Capitol.
