There was an interesting blog article posted on the Inpatient Management Community of Interest (COI). It was posted by Debra Sage, BSN, RN, CDE, on June 4th. The article features tips from several AADE Members to help you enjoy (& survive!) the national AADE Education meetings:
Debra Sage states, "My first AADE meeting was overwhelming. Seriously, I was given a four pound program book. I wish then I had a fairy godmother to help me navigate the conference. Thankfully technology has helped and here is some sage advice from our COI members.
Donna Funk states, “Preplan. I build a schedule on line, download or print the handouts in advance. I organize a daily schedule and place it on the stack of handouts and I grab the stack for the day. Preplanning takes a lot of pressure off and you avoid missing things you want to do.”
Chris Memering endorses the AADE 14 Planner app and the on-line schedule. Chris said, “Look up the meaning of the little icons in the corner.”
I used the app last year and I ditch carrying 4 days of lecture slides. Look for the icon to scan on a smart phone or go to the AADE web site and start planning the sessions to attend. Lecture slides can be printed at the meeting.
Corporate Symposia Sessions have credit, but Product Theaters do not. The last couple years you needed to reserve tickets to attend. Ticket pickup was in another line and sell out. I like to print the lectures and do the evaluations while at the conference.
Sue Hartman said to plan your time in the exhibits and attend the COI meetings so you are able to put faces with names. Meet others and network.
What to wear? Caroline Isbey said, “Forget fashion; wear comfortable shoes for walking.”
Caroline said, “Take breaks and get some sun and fresh air even if it is only 15 minutes.”'
Debra ends the article with a great tip: Refresh. Recharge. Renew
