This is lengthy, but please stick it out & read til the end!

A heartfelt welcome and note of appreciation to Charles Termini, BS Pharm RPh for volunteering to be a member of the Missouri state Coordinating Body (CB). Chuck, as he prefers to be called, is from Kansas City, & is holding the position of Technology Leader, including website administration. The CB is the organization that is the state link to the national AADE & the Local Networking Groups (formerly called Chapters of the AADE). Chuck will be focused on improving the Missouri web-page of the MyAADE Network including generating various files in the Document Library, for posting photos, meeting minutes, helping to post announcements, etc. We want this to be a dynamic site that works for you! We will be investigating expansion into the tech worlds of facebook, etc. to increase awareness & access to & for diabetes Educators. Your suggestions & tips are greatly appreciated! In addition to Chuck, Mary Lawrence, Membership Chair, will be speaking with a few others, who in the past, have also expressed an interest in joining the Team. But, we need more volunteer Leaders, as some of the few Members who are the current CB Team, will be leaving their positions in November/December. The annual AADE Leadership Forum is scheduled for early December & it will be very helpful to have a new Team be in place. Especially needed are Chair, Finance Leader, Advocacy Leader. So whether it’s for a one-time project or for a few months, or for a year, your time & talents are desired.

Congratulations to any first time CDE’s for 2012! Have you successfully renewed your credential? Please let me know, so that we can publicize and celebrate your accomplishments.

Are you going to Indy/AADE? AADE is sponsoring a Hospitality suite for members of the state with the largest percentage of registrants. At last check, Missouri is running in 8th place, so stay tuned! Mary Lawrence, Membership Chair, & myself will be there to represent Missouri CB; we hope to see many of you there!  Feel free to use your Discussions link from the state page of MY AADE Network to search for someone to car pool with or share a room. Are you presenting a poster demonstration?  If so, please let me know, so I can promote your accomplishments! To help you navigate the city, use the mobile website, m.visitindy.com. The Visit Indy app, which works best for Android or iPhone, can search for restaurants, attractions & events based on your location and interests. You can call 800-323-4639 to request a visitor’s guidebook.

In the past few weeks, you received the AADE’s Diabetes Educator’s Guide in the mail. Did you find the $35.00 coupon that can be used towards AADE products, including webinars; it expires 9/30/12!

The Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF) is reaching out to adults with type 1 diabetes, because 85% of people living with type 1 diabetes & 50% of people diagnosed with type 1 diabetes are over the age of 18. JDRF has developed two personal guidebook toolkits, written by adults with & for adults with type 1 diabetes. One of the toolkits is for a recently diagnosed adult & the other is for someone who has already been living with type 1. You may request a sample folder of the 2 workbooks as well as “Are you an adult with type 1 diabetes?” brochures from the regional JDRF Chapter offices. The Kansas City, MO, JDRF Chapter can be reached at 816-472-7997; in St Louis, call Laura Roeder at 314-748-7067; or visit www.jdrf.org/adult.

Please contact me for any concerns/suggestions/comments; in general, you’ve been a pretty quiet group! Please enter “CB info” in the subject line; nancytcde@hotmail.com.

Nancy Trebilcock, BSN, RN, CDE; 2011-2012 Missouri CB Transition Team Chair.
