Project Vision, MO CB 2019 Objectives and More

Project Vision:

If you haven’t heard yet AADE has launched a new plan to assist our profession as we move forward. Project Vision is a multi-year plan to increase our success in an ever changing healthcare world and focusing on all of the many things we do, not just education and not just solely addressing diabetes.

“AADE’s PROJECT VISION seeks to

  • Improve outcomes with holistic, patient-centered care.
  • Bridge the gap between the clinical and self-management aspects of care.
  • Make the most of the skills that you already have while growing those diabetes specialists of the future should develop.
  • Elevate your role as an expert at the clinical and behavioral aspects of diabetes care.
  • Claim your expertise in the cardiometabolic space.
  • Demonstrate how diabetes education programs are savings centers and not cost centers.

Join us on this journey to answer the call for less expensive but more effective diabetes care for people with diabetes. That’s what diabetes educators have to offer, NOW LET’S CLAIM IT!

Our new Vision for the Specialty:

To drive optimal outcomes through the integration of diabetes clinical management, education, prevention and support”

There are many resources already available to assist in understanding and taking part in the Project Vision and more will continue to be launched. I encourage everyone to participate in these activities, share your thoughts, and engaged members and non-members in discussions regarding AADE, our role on the healthcare team, and how we can make a positive impact on patient care, care quality, cost, and patient and provider experience. MO CB 2019 Objectives:

The MO CB Board met earlier in March in person to discuss our objectives and goals for the 2019 year. Several activities were already being planned, but we wanted to meet as a new Board to outline what the year would hold for us as a CB. From our discussions several things came to light: we want to include more energized, driven members on our board; we want to engage more of our members consistently, and we want to provide some amazing educational opportunities to our members (and non-members) during 2019.

  • Seek and recruit board members for vacant positions for 2020: Our current board members may be reaching out to you requesting interest in assisting with MO CB activities. Please consider being part of our Board to help represent our state well. There are a variety of opportunities with a variety of time commitments. I am sure we can find one that is just right for you. If you want to reach out to us definitely do so. We are happy to discuss opportunities with anyone.
  • Engage membership more effectively by the end of 2019: We plan to reach out more, utilize social media more, and hold more informal activities to network and share ideas. We will be working with sponsors to host a few roundtables and plan to have an informal networking event at AADE Annual. Keep an eye out for invitations and additional information for these events.
  • Provide educational opportunities for Missouri by the end of 2019: The MO CB has consistently provided high quality educational opportunities to members and non-members within our state and we plan to continue to do so. We are anticipating hosting a webinar over a lunch hour in June and then a half day webinar series in the fall that will include the webinar donated by one of our members, Laurie Klipfel (thanks again Laurie!!). Keep an eye out for these opportunities also!

Our MO CB Board is a wonderful group of engaged, energized individuals with a passion for diabetes care and patients. We want you to be a part of this amazing team. Feel free to reach out to any of us with suggestions, concerns, interests, or any other thoughts at any time. All of our contact information is available on the MO CB page. My e-mail is stahnkea@umkc.edu and I would love to hear from you.

MO AADE Lobby Day:

Susan Felten, Grassroots Advocacy Coordinator, sent an announcement recently regarding MO CB Lobby Day. The event will be held at the Capitol on Tuesday, April 9th, 2019 from 10:00am until 3:30pm. She is working on setting up what will be a productive event including a pre-activity briefing, group interaction, and a time to discuss future plans. Don’t forget to make an appointment with your legislature as soon as possible. If you would like additional details or assistance please do not hesitate to contact Susan at susanfelten.wolfe@gmail.com.

Request for suggestions:

As a Board we want the educational events provided to meet your needs, so suggestions regarding timing, location, and content of events are very welcomed. If you have any suggestions for the board as we begin to plan activities please let us know. Again, my e-mail is stahnkea@umkc.edu.

Happy Spring and have a wonderful weekend.
