Diabetic Shoe Bill Introduced in the 116th Congress
On January 28th, in both chambers, the Promoting Access to Diabetic Shoes Act was introduced. Representatives Earl Blumenauer (D-OR) and Tom Reed (R-NY) and Senators Sherrod Brown (D-OH) and Susan Collins (R-ME) are continuing to champion this legislation. These bipartisan bills would authorize nurse practitioners (NPs) and physician assistants (PAs) to certify a Medicare beneficiary’s need for therapeutic shoes, thus improving timeliness and access to care while reducing costs.
