AADE Project Vision ~~ Shaping the Future of Our Specialty
I had the privilege of attending the 2019 AADE Volunteer Leadership Forum in Chicago mid-January representing the Montana Coordinating Body (CB). Ninety-six people attended the forum, including 65 diabetes educator leaders representing CBs and the Communities of Interest (COI). It was a great couple of days to learn and network with each other.
Our keynote presentation addressed the changing healthcare landscape and; therefore, how to proactively position our profession to help lead the way. For the past couple of years, our AADE board-of-directors has been working on developing a new vision with supporting strategies to help shape the future of our profession which ultimately helps those with diabetes or those at risk for diabetes. The board has worked with a professional consultant and many other stakeholders including AADE members, AADE staff, providers, payers and people with diabetes and other partners to create: Project Vision ~ Shaping the Future of Our Specialty.
The new vision for the specialty and the six guiding strategies are listed below:
Vision: To drive optimal outcomes through the integration of diabetes clinical management, education, prevention and support.
Strategies:
- Driving the integration of diabetes clinical management, self-management education, prevention and support
- The optimization of diabetes care delivery for the quadruple aim
- Leveraging technology-driven diabetes care, education and support
- The promotion and integration of behavioral health
- The integration of cardio-metabolic and related conditions
- Advocating for equity to person-centered care
