Hello! Since we have been so successful with our state's Montana Cardiovascular Disease and Diabetes Prevention Program (due in large part to the awesome diabetes educators here in MT!!), I asked if I could 'copy and paste' this article from AADE's diabetes prevention newsletter to share with you all. For those of you who aren't aware, AADE is one of 6 grantees from the CDC to expand DPP programs nationally. The article is from the December 2014 of "Plugged Into Prevention" newsletter, available on the AADE website: http://www.diabeteseducator.org/ProfessionalResources/Prevention So, I'm 'cheating' a bit on my first blog, but thought it was a good article and tells how the AADE's DPP is coming along. It's always nice to have a 'big picture' view of what is going on in the world of diabetes, and in this case, prevention. Best to you! Marci Butcher

AADE has made treads in the year of 2014 with its energies to scale the National Diabetes Prevention Program and work towards reimbursement. Currently with 35 sites in 14 states across the nation, AADE DPP sites have collectively implemented over 200 cohorts and enrolled over 2000 participants.
Key highlights of AADE's DPP in 2014, included the training of 6 lifestyle coaches to become Master Lifestyle Coaches. This, in turn, has assisted with increasing the number of trained lifestyle coaches and the capacity to deliver the program with its increased demand. AADE was able to conduct 4 Lifestyle Coach Trainings in the Kentucky, Mississippi, and North Carolina areas, training over 57 new lifestyle coaches!
Additionally, we were able to launch our AADE DPP SharePoint site and AADE DPP LinkedIn page. Providing Lifestyle Coaches a means to connect and collaborate with other coaches who are delivering the National DPP. The online networks provide AADE Lifestyle Coaches with scholarly articles around prediabetes, upcoming events, tips and resources for delivering the program, and opportunities for open communication with other Lifestyle Coaches. The continued interest in prediabetes and preventative services from our AADE members brought about a DPP Community of Interest which was formed on MY AADENETWORK!
Other high points have included collaboration with other CDC DPP grantees and national organizations to discuss synergizing strategies including the YMCA, NCADD, Optum, AMA, AHIP, and more. Outreach and increased education of employers and other diabetes educators was done through presentations on AADE DPP at the CDC grantee meeting, AADE Annual Meeting 2014, Rocky Mountain Association of Diabetes Educators, Kentucky Diabetes Symposium, Greater Philadelphia Business Coalition on Health, Mississippi and West Virginia DPP stakeholder meetings (in conjunction with the state health departments and NACDD).
AADE has had to focus its efforts in 2014 towards sustainability of existing AADE DPP sites, including meeting with various insurance and employer groups to promote coverage of DPP. Our efforts, along with multiple other sources and players has led to increasing DPP delivery in Kentucky, Colorado, and Washington where the state employees are offering the DPP as a covered health benefit. Our sites have collectively worked with over 20 employer groups to educate them on the benefits of offering AADE DPP to their employees as a covered benefit, and the majority of these employer groups have pledged to do so in 2015/2016.
In 2015, AADE will continue to scale the National Diabetes Prevention Program by support existing AADE DPP sites, standing up new AADE DPP locations, and continue to work with interested organizations in guide them to offer a program that is proven to prevent and/or delay the onset of type 2 diabetes with the input of Diabetes Educators
