Hi all - Happy Holidays from the NYS Coordinating Body of AADE!!
As we approach the end of the 2015 and prepare for 2016, please remember to check out our Facebook and Twitter pages:
https://www.facebook.com/NYSCBNELNG (we now have 161 "Likes")
https://twitter.com/AADEinNY (we now have 392 "Followers")
You are missing out on great information on diabetes education, research, information, technology, and advocacy if you are not aware of the Diabetes Online Community. Our FB and Twitter pages are a great way to be linked to this information.
FB has many user groups for popular diabetes devices (see attachment for a sample of what is available).
These groups are educational for Certified Diabetes Eduacators - you may pick on information that will improve your ability to assist your own patients. It is great to see so many people in these groups reaching out to help others. Great tips for troubleshooting issues like CGMs that will not stick, etc. These groups give a realistic picture of daily life with diabetes & trouble shooting issues (people are very forthcoming/perhaps less intimidated than when they are sitting in front of their diabetes health care providers). They also express frustration over issues such as providers who do not review their pump/CGM/meter data and provide useful feedback. Many of them are crying out for help!!
If you do not know how to use Facebook of Twitter - find a trusty worthy person to get you set up, and play around with it, it is not difficult and it is the best way to learn.
Use an alias if you are not comfortable with using your real name on social media.
There are many other wonderful websites in the Diabetes Online Community, most of which can be accessed through our FB and Twitter pages. I did a CE presentation on the Diabetes Online Community at our Northeastern NY Diabetes Educators LNG meeting in October but unfortuntately the powerpoint presentation is too large to share on this website.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions about the Diabetes Online Community.
Holiday Bonus: This is a link to a free ADA 3.75 CME/CE on Diabetic Kidney Disease:

Again - we wish you all Happy Holidays and we look forward to working with you in 2016!!
Sincerely,
