Hi everyone,
I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself to you. My name is Mindy Saenz and I’m the new NC Coordinating Body chair for 2016-2018. Many of our members in the East know me, but I’m sure there are a lot of you who don’t.
I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of 13 and that eventually led me to decide to become a dietitian. I graduated from a Coordinated Undergraduate Program in Dietetics from Utah State University in 1993. I began my career at the Halifax County Health Department and as part of my duties, became the dietitian for their diabetes education program. In 1998 I had the chance to accept a position with the East Carolina University adult diabetes clinic and became a CDE. In that role I helped coordinate the Diabetes Education Fellowship program (now called the A to Z diabetes education boot camp), which allowed me to meet many of you throughout the state who came as participants of that program. In 2009, I transferred to the pediatric diabetes clinic at ECU where I continue to work.
During my years here at ECU I have had the opportunity to be part of the active leadership of CCADE and filled every leadership position in the chapter and was President twice. At the time of the change from Chapters to Local Networking Groups I was the treasurer. I am really looking forward to being chair of the NC Coordinating Body.
One of things the Coordinating Body is working on is offering webinars, hopefully quarterly. These webinars will provide continuing education credits and will be free for members. There is a limit of 100 people per webinar so be sure to keep an eye out for the registration info and register as soon as you can.
If you have ideas of other things that you think we should be doing please let us know. I’m really looking forward to serving you as your chair.
