Diabetes Alert Day

We all know November is the big month for Diabetes awareness, but March has an important day as well. March 22nd is the ADA's Diabetes Alert Day. This marks another opportunity for all of us to increase awareness of diabetes prevention and risk management. And what better way to do this than to increase the awareness of a new education tool.

In 2015, the North Carolina Diabetes Advisory Council finalized their 2015-2020 strategic plan. The North Carolina Guide to Diabetes Prevention and Management is not just a plan for heads of state and corporations, but a document written in plain language for people at risk for and with diabetes, their employers and communities.

The plan contains tips for living well with diabetes, setting up diabetes support in communities and in places of employment. It has sections for Health Care and Government with recommendations to help these entities promote diabetes health in our state. Some of this can be used by educators in group or one-on-one education. The entire plan is easily accessed on the website, www.diabetesnc.com.

On March 22nd, let's stand together and make our voices heard by informing our patients and providers of this great resource for promoting diabetes wellness and prevention at a time that the spotlight typically shines on St Pat's Day, the Final Four and Spring Break.
