Go Red for Women

Hello my fellow North Carolina Educators!

Can you believe that January is over?  It is amazing how fast time flies.  And with February, comes a time when we as diabetes educators can help support something that all our patients are at risk for: Heart Disease.  February gives us time to raise awareness about heart disease along with our education.

While heart disease and stroke respectively comprise the second and fourth leading causes of death in North Carolina, totalcardiovascular disease was the leading cause of death in 2012.

And February 6th (Friday!) is the 11th Annual Go Red for Women Wear Red Day.  1 in 3 women die of heart disease and stroke and 80% of these can be prevented with education (and we are so good at that) and lifestyle changes (what we teach about).

To help spread the word, help with the social media campaign and like Go Red for Women on Facebook.  Invite your friends to wear read on Friday.  Challenge your co-workers.  Dress your family.  Spread the awareness.

Find tools and resources to help spread awareness here: https://www.goredforwomen.org/wearredday/resources/

On Friday February 6th, wear read in support of this great cause.  Post your pictures on social media with #GoRed.

The great thing about diabetes educators is we look at the whole health of the person we are working with.  And we can help support our sister and brother groups in promoting awareness about disease that diabetes also effects.

Thank you for all you do for our PWD in NC!
