Obesity and Type 2 Diabetes are both becoming global epidemic's!  Nearly 1/3 of all Americans adults are obese and the number of obese children has tripled in the last 4 decades.  Obesity is the single best predictor of whether a person will develop Type 2 Diabetes.  If the person is overweight or obese and their BMI is >30, then they have a much higher risk of developing diabetes during their lifetime.  Almost 90% of people with Type 2 Diabetes are overweight or obese.  People with excess abdominal fat are much more prone to developing Type 2 Diabetes because abdominal fat cells release inflammatory chemicals that reduce the body's ability to incorporate and utilize insulin.  The risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes by age 25 quadruples in obese children.  More and more children are being diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes due to obesity, unhealthy diets, and lack of physical activity.  It has been found that if a obese person loses 5-10% of their body weight, it will result in drastic improvements in overall health and well-being and reduce the risk for Diabetes.  Moving more and walking for at least 20-30 minutes per day can increase the metabolism.  There have been studies that show that if a person eats healthier, exercises more, and loses weight then they can reduce the risk for Diabetes by 60%!
