Your health and the needs of your clients, family and employer come first. That's why ADCES is keeping a close eye on the potential spread of the COVID-19 (coronavirus) and we will continue to monitor the situation based on best guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC ) and the World Health Organization (WHO). While the risk remains low at this time, we cannot ensure a virus-free environment for OK CB ADCES Annual Conference March 27, 2020. Therefore, after much discussion and consideration, we have decided to cancel the March 2020 conference and have rescheduled the conference for November 6,2020. It is our hope that ...

We received some wonderful news at the September Oklahoma Senate Diabetes Caucus held at the Oklahoma State Capitol on the first Thursday of each month. Healthchoice will cover the program when offered by fully CDC-recognized DPP organizations in Oklahoma as a preventative service which means that it will be no cost to the Healthchoice member. Other health insurance carriers that are available to state employees will be required to cover DPP by ...

"This report provides an overview of diabetes in Oklahoma and among SoonerCare members. Diabetes self-management training could lower medical costs and improve quality of life for SoonerCare members by reducing the long-term impact of uncontrolled disease. We hope the recommendations detailed in this report will not only benefit SoonerCare members, but also positively impact the state's health outcomes. I have posted the Reed Bill Fact Sheet as an announcement on MyAADE Network. It summarizes the new legislation introduced in the House of Representatives. The legislation amends the Social Security Act to expand access to diabetes self-management training (DSMT) services under the Medicare program.

I recently attended the AADE Public Policy Forum in Chicago as a representative from Oklahoma. Our main focus at the meeting was the proposed legislation to amend the current DSMT coverage for Medicare. I have included the summary of the "Expanding Access to Diabetes Self-Management Training Act " with the proposed changes to the current DSMT coverage. I encourage you to read the summary of HR 5768. I am also asking each diabetes educator in Oklahoma to reach out to their federal legislators and tell them what this bill would do to improve outcomes for our patients. Diabetes educators are fighting the fight against diabetes every day and need to share those ...

Diabetess T1.5 (LADA)

I feel it is becoming more common to be unsure of the type of diabetes at time of diagnosis in the hospital settings. In previous years diagnoses were frequently determined by age. Children were type 1, juvenile, or insulin dependent while adults were type 2 or non-insulin dependent. Now we find ourselves often times in a "gray area" trying to determine a diagnosis. Type 1.5 or "latent autoimmune diabetes of adults" (LADA) is now recognized and over recent years I have personally seen it more frequently. As if diabetes was not already complex?? I found this article to be helpful (for myself) and the more astute patients. https://www.diabetesselfmanagement ...
