Oklahoma State Employees Health Plan coverage of National Diabetes Prevention Program

We received some wonderful news at the September Oklahoma Senate Diabetes Caucus held at the Oklahoma State Capitol on the first Thursday of each month.   Elizabeth Luecke, EGID policy analyst, provided information that the Oklahoma State Employees Insurance Group Division (EGID) will begin covering the National Diabetes Prevention Program effective January 1, 2020.  Healthchoice will cover the program when offered by fully CDC-recognized DPP organizations in Oklahoma as a preventative service which means that it will be no cost to the Healthchoice member.  Other health insurance carriers that are available to state employees will be required to cover DPP by plan year 2021 but specific benefit parameters will not be dictated by the EGID.  I know that this process has taken several years to come together and I personally want to thank all those involved from AADE and the Oklahoma Senate Diabetes Caucus that helped to make this happen. I have attached the slide image that she presented to the caucus for reference. This is a huge step forward in the effort to reduce the epidemic of diabetes in Oklahoma.
