I would like to thank all those who wrote in or called their Senator or Representative during the ADA Call to Congress in Washington DC March 9-11. Each office I visited shared that these communications do make a difference.
I was able to meet with the offices of all 7 Oregon Senators and Representatives. This was my third time volunteering to represent Oregon. This year I was also able to represent not just the educators but also as a person with diabetes. Packets were left with each office containing the information provided by the ADA and Oregon specific information that I brought with me. All expressed a concern about the growing number of people with diabetes and the importance of continuing funding for NIH, NIDDK, CDC. The concern is how much. Please, when asked to respond to Advocacy request know that your efforts do make a difference. Oregon was represented by myself and Michael Greene, JD the Advocacy Chair of our local ADA.
If you would like to see what 200 people did during this event, please go to youtube and watch the video to hear the Stop Diabetes Blues song.

Wednesday March 30 I will be part of a panel presenting Diabetes: Oregon update at the State Capital. The House Health Care committee requested a hearing to address the issue of diabetes and obesity – where we are currently.
