Why Attend PA Diabetes Conference on May 1 & 2???
This year we are pleased Gary Scheiner MS, CDE will again be one of our presenters. Anyone who was at last years PA Diabetes Conference will remember Gary presenting in the dark as a result of an unexpected power outage. With limited lighting and no audio, Gary remained calm, unfazed and continued with his presentation. This was a great example of why Gary was honored at the 2013 AADE conference in Philadelphia, as the Diabetes Educator of the Year. This year Gary’s presentation will be “Unleash Your Inner Exercise Expert”. This may be just what you need to help get your clients or you moving!
If you are following the AADE advocacy website then you are aware that our state is actively working on state licensure. To date, Kentucky and Indiana have adopted state licensure for Diabetes Educators. At the first session on Thursday, we have Pat Adams RN, CDE, Past CB Chair and Martha Rinker, Chief Advocacy Officer addressing aspects of licensure. Our speakers Amy Gilliland RN, MSN, CDE and Janice Matsko RN from the Children’s Hospital of Pittsburgh will address Cystic Fibrosis Related Diabetes. Would you know who’s at risk and what age group? Why are people with CF at risk and what is the recommended treatment option? Other topics will address Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome, type 2 diabetes in youth and sleep apnea. Ann serves on the National Board of Directors for AADE.
The conference is a great way to learn new information and meet up with other educators. This year we have planned some fun for Thursday evening. After dinner, there will be a DJ spinning tunes from 9 pm – 11 pm, so make sure you bring your dancing shoes.
