I was looking through the AADE 2016 (San Diego) meeting schedule and saw that four of our speakers from our PA AADE meeting in Harrisburg on April 21 and 22 will be presenting at the national meeting. What an endorsement for great speakers! This is what you have to look forward to if you attend the state meeting:

Mary Ann Hodorowicz – A dynamic, fun speaker – listening to her is a treat! She will speak to us Thursday about evidence based nutrition guidelines as well as an update of diabetes meds. She is also presenting on Thursday morning at the pre-conference symposium on sustaining your DSME program, at no additional charge. (at the national meeting you would be paying big bucks to hear Mary Ann’s pre conference symposium on the same subject!).

Moving onto Friday…..

Linda Siminerio – I feel so privileged that this nationally renowned researcher and speaker will be presenting at our meeting! Linda will be talking to us about the new opportunities available for diabetes educators and how we can best position ourselves to jump right in. She will relate this to the changing health care environment and help us see into the future a bit.

Carol Homko – Carol will be talking about the impact of maternal glucose control on fetal outcomes in the pregnant woman with diabetes. Carol’s depth of knowledge about this subject is unparalleled. There are certainly challenges we all face as more women have elevated blood sugars during pregnancy – Carol will help us not only better understand this but also give us valuable information we can use to better educate our patients both before and during pregnancy.

Marilyn Clougherty – If you have ever heard Marilyn talk about diabetes camp or her type 1 children you know what I mean when I say she has passion for this subject. I don’t work with children but I know learning from Marilyn will help me as the adolescents’ transition to adult care. Whether or not you work with children you are sure to appreciate her knowledge and passion for care.

Patricia Davidson – Tricia will pick up where Carol leaves off and talk to us about children and adolescents with type 2 diabetes. She will discuss the scope of the problem, hands on skills for prevention and treatment. It’s a scary issue and without early intervention we are going to see an epidemic on our hands – what a great area for diabetes educators to lead the charge.

Linda Gottfredson and Kathy Stroh – I wrote a few weeks ago about how much I am looking forward to this presentation. We need skills in order to better help our aging population. And if you work with children and can’t relate to this professionally, we can all relate personally! These two speakers are known for standing room only presentations at AADE national.

All these great speakers, most of whom are from Pennsylvania, make me proud to be a CDE from Pennsylvania! I look forward to seeing you in Harrisburg.
