Together we can Make a Difference
PART 1
Though November is the month we recognize as Diabetes Education Month, this May was a month packed full of diabetes-related events.
“Emerging Trends in Diabetes Management” was the theme of the Pennsylvania AADE 8th Annual Conference, May 2 and 3. For the second year it was held in Bedford Springs – a fabulous resort that accommodated CDEs from PA, MD, and DE – beautifully.
The focus of the Conference addressed ‘the ever-changing health care environment’ – to help Diabetes Educators and Health Care Providers keep pace with current trends and technologies.
A special thank you to our corporate sponsors and our well-oiled Education Planning Committee and Coordinating Body. Without their continued support, our ability to deliver a quality CEU experience would be limited.
The PA CB, which includes DE CDEs as a separate LNG, continues to grow and to thrive with the mission: ‘to build and nurture engagement, growth, and networking with other diabetes/diabetes prevention organizations.’ This year, we welcomed a new LNG from the Northwest region of PA.
The Diabetes Educator of the Year Award was presented to Mercedes Jurkiewicz and the 2019 AADE Annual Meeting Scholarship was awarded to Pat Adams. Congratulations to both women for a job well done!
We are very fortunate that the AADE 2019 President-Elect is Kellie Antinori-Lent, MSN, RN, ACNS-BC, BC-ADM, CDE, FAADE, Diabetes Clinical Nurse Specialist from University of Pittsburgh Medical Center – Shadyside Hospital. Let us all reach out and wish her well as she takes on this new leadership position!
