What's happening in Western PA?

The Western Pennsylvania Local Networking Group of the AADE held their Annual Education Conference at the Doubletree in Monroeville on Friday, October 11th,  2013.  Seventy-two professionals, both members of the AADE and non-members attended and listened to an array of experts on the subject of Diabetes. The theme of the conference was "Using Technology to Improve the Lives of People with Diabetes".

One of the highlights day was an expert panel with an endocrinologist, Wayne Evron, a pediatric nurse practitioner/CDE, Jean Roemer and Wesley Evans, a person with type 1 diabetes. All did a wonderful job explaining the rationale for insulin pumps and how they have improved the lives of those with diabetes. It was great to get the personal and professional prospective. The program provided 6.5 CEU’s to those who attended.

The subject of pursuing licensure in the state of Pennsylvania for those who educate persons with diabetes was another topic of conversation. Stay tuned to your e-mails and visit the MyAADE website often in the next several months to see what position we will take here in Pennsylvania on licensure. You can read more about the State Licensure Initiative by visiting the MyAADE website page.

What's happening in Western PA?

Great Program that was relevant to all in PA.  Technology is not even a dream in the world of diabetes, but has become the reality.  I attended and was very impressed by all who presented.  Especially moving was the experience shared by the speaker with T1 diabetes who disclosed some of the challenges and personal interactions that have shaped him into the person he is today.

I know that each area has programs and think it is great that the program chair shared content with all of us across the state.  It helps me know what is happening across the state and what topics are on the forefront of our profession.
