Changing things up....

June 26th, our Northeast LNG members met and had a learning dinner meeting which was both informative and a great networking night! I know many other LNGs also have these types of meetings for their members but why was ours so special to us? We had new members participating, which was very exciting and optimistic on the future of our LNG. The reason I titled this blog, changing things up is two reasons. One is that this type of meeting is new to us, we only have had two in the past two years and second, the webinar we listened to, “Beating the Boredom” talks about making changes in your teaching style and technique to decrease the boredom and increase learning for you consumers. As diabetes educators, we want to be the best and have all our consumers learn and make the positive changes for their diabetes but in this busy world we live and work in, sometimes this is hard. This webinar explains how we best learn and retain information and how we need to assess ourselves as well as our consumers when having a program. We need to always be willing to make the changes to have great outcomes and don’t be afraid to try something new. Even the best can be better. Some suggestions to share: make classes interactive, fun, and have open communication. We need to refocus and reassess…often. Time is running out, the webinar expires on August 5th so if you want to learn more about Beating the Boredom: Using Different Teaching Techniques, log into AADE’s website and make the purchase.
