Update breakout

Hi to all:)

As I have watched the Utah Diabetes Educators group grow and become an active force in impacting  education  and mentoring of new educators here in Utah. As well we have had a say in national activities, and decision making. We still have room to grow; as the diabetes epidemic continues to grow, more educators will be needed. The Utah CB is active in promoting DSMT/E and education to the people impacted by diabetes.

The questions I am going to ask is:

1 How do we attract the educators currently in Utah to become more involved in state volunteer positions?

2. How do we involve educators in national AADE?

3. What do you see as the main deterrent to becoming involved in committees or leadership, especially on the local level?

4. How do we increase interest in becoming a diabetes educator?

Please think about these questions and respond, we will be also doing a breakout 11/7/2012 at update to show how a discussion can be an active entity.

Thank You

Deterrent to becoming involved in committees or leadership

The main deterrent to becoming involved is the perception of the amount of time.  There is so much work to be done but many hands make light work.  If we all pitch in it makes the work lighter on everyone.  When getting involved it is important to communicate how much time you can lend and be realistic about those limits yourself.
