There are only a couple of days left on until the Senate again meets to make the final decision about the Health Care plan, Affordable Care Act, otherwise known as Obama Care. President Trump tweeted “if Republican Senators are unable to pass what we are working on now, they should immediately REPEAL all and then REPLACE at a later date! “He wrote on Twitter. Over the holiday, you may call your senator and ask when they are holding public events during the recess and where they stand on health care. The number to call is 844–241–1141. If you are unable to speak with someone in person, leave a message with your information and feedback. There is so much ...

The Advocacy Forum in Chicago presented this May, 2016 was very interesting and focused on passing meaningful legislation at the State and Federal Levels. The primary legislative bill is the Access to Quality Diabetes Education Act of 2015 (HR1726.S. 1345)- which seeks to designate CDEs as Medicare approved providers of diabetes self-management training (DSMT) services. There are currently 40 members of congress that support this bill. At the state level, there is a call to legislation to recognize licensure of diabetes educators. House Bills for Diabetes Action Plans (DAP) have been implemented in 18 states and another 10 are considering passing their own ...

You should consider becoming a Certified Diabetes Educator (CDE ) if you are working with diabetic patients regardless of your position. Whether you are a dietitian, pharmacist, nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or doctor being a CDE legitimizes your position regardless of the type of practice. Many employers look for employees who are CDEs. Being a CDE demonstrates to potential employers that you are a competent diabetes educator. For example if you are working in an office, having your CDE gives you an advantage because you are considered the expert. Being a CDE provides credibility, allows you more advancement in your career and to be a more ...

As you may have heard the Utah House of Representatives has refused to allow a hearing on the Governor’s alternative to Medicaid Expansion. The American Diabetes Association, among other groups, strongly supports Healthy Utah. I am encouraging all our diabetes educators to reach out to our representatives. Please call your Utah Hourse of Representative member and educate them on why the poorest sector of our population is more apt to get diaetes, as well as the complications of diabetes. In addition, there will be a rally at the State Capital on Thursday, March 5 th at noon. If you are able please do what you can to help push the House to consider this legislation. ...

Hi to all:) As I have watched the Utah Diabetes Educators group grow and become an active force in impacting education and mentoring of new educators here in Utah. As well we have had a say in national activities, and decision making. We still have room to grow; as the diabetes epidemic continues to grow, more educators will be needed. The Utah CB is active in promoting DSMT/E and education to the people impacted by diabetes. The questions I am going to ask is: 1 How do we attract the educators currently in Utah to become more involved in state volunteer positions? 2. How do we involve educators in national AADE? 3. What do you see as the main deterrent ...
