Noteworthy: Shumlin signs Diabetes Awareness proclamation & New MyHealthyVT website!

By Erica Owen posted 11-16-2015 13:07

Colleagues,

A few items to note as November approaches. As you already know, November is “National Diabetes Month”. This year the National Diabetes Education Program, supported by NIH and CDC has the theme:  Diabetes Education and Support: Everyone Has a Role. What’s Yours? Perhaps this makes you think about becoming more active in VTADE. We would welcome you! Perhaps this is info you can use within your health service area to promote self-management programs along with the information below.

Breaking News:

Governor Shumlin signed a proclamation to create Diabetes Awareness Month in Vermont for November 2015 after an anonymous Vermont consumer sent him a draft. The Health Commissioner’s staff sent the draft to me for editing and fact-checking (completed by Health Department health surveillance data analysts).

Also, here a the link to a new website: http://MyHealthyVT.org that is going live next week to promote the Blueprint supported self-management programs for tobacco cessation, wellness recovery action plan, YMCA Diabetes Prevention Program, and Healthier Living Workshops for chronic disease, pain, and diabetes. Currently the site links to the YMCA’s prevention program, but that content will completely change next week when the new site goes live.

Best wishes. Robin
