All,

ADA has some new online resources to help children with diabetes participate in daycare, camp, and recreational programs.  The Association is expanding upon their Safe at School program and previous efforts in daycare and camps to make sure all children with diabetes can participate fully in youth programs.  The main page is available here:  http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/know-your-rights/discrimination/public-accommodations/daycare-camps-and-recreational-programs/

Of particular note is a page explaining each state’s laws on diabetes care in child care and other programs, available at http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/know-your-rights/discrimination/public-accommodations/daycare-camps-and-recreational-programs/daycare-camps-state-laws-regs.html  ADA has a similar state legislation page that describes the state laws that impact diabetes care in schools, available at http://www.diabetes.org/living-with-diabetes/parents-and-kids/diabetes-care-at-school/legal-protections/state-laws-and-policies.html   ADA frequently updates these pages to reflect new successes such as Florida’s new school legislation.

As always, while it is hoped that these online tools will fuel advocacy efforts, please don’t hesitate to contact ADA directly if you are assisting a family with a school or child care issue.  You can also connect families to a Legal Advocate by recommending that they call 1-800-DIABETES.
