WV Local Networking Group (LNG) is very excited to have the opportunity have Andrea McCarty, MS, RDN, LD, CDCES speak about patient advocacy related to patients living with diabetes. Andrea is currently employed by WVU as a Certified Diabetes Dietitian at the Pediatric Endocrinology office. Andrea is also involved with the ADCES Advocacy Committee. At the end of the presentation, we will also be discussing with attendees at which location we would want to host our 2024 Diabetes Symposium. I received an email from the CDC today in which they are promoting "Diabetes at Work" - a project of the National Diabetes Education Program (NDEP). It would be a great resource for you to use when educating those you work with. Good Morning Everyone! As you may be aware, the Bridging the Gap Diabetes Symposium will be held in Morgantown, WV on Wednesday-Friday, May 4-6, 2016. WVADE traditionally conducts the speaker introductions. There are 20 speakers to be introduced over the course of the meeting. WVADE My State Network will be the new way to communicate activities and with other members throughout the state. Have you heard about AADE’s state licensure initiative ? We recently had a breakthrough and Kentucky is now the first state to require licenses for diabetes educators. This weeks issue of the WV Legislative Newsletter addresses health care issues being addressed in the WV Legislature. A topic of interest in this week's issue is SB 82--A child's right to breastfeed in any location--public or private. This might be an issue of interest considering the reduced risk for diabetes associated with breastfeeding.

The January 17 issue of the WV Legislative Health Care Newsletter can no be found in the document library. This newsletter reviews the weekly activities of the WV Legislature as it relates to Health Care issues.

THIS PROJECT HAS BEEN CANCELLED DUE TO THE LACK OF INTEREST OF THE WVADE MEMBERSHIP. WVADE is working with the WV Department of Education to provide Diabetes Training to school personnel. Your expertise is needed to develop and implement trainings for school food service directors, cooks, cafeteria managers, teachers, RDs, and nurses. Tentative training dates and locations can be found on the WVADE event calendar. If you are interested in assisting with this project, please contact Arnie Vaughan. With the new year comes a new leadership model for AADE. This model incorporates the use of a Coordinating Body rather than an Executive Committee.
