This is an exciting time in diabetes education. Health care is transforming, paving the way for new models of care and technology advancements. For educators, this means expanding your roles and competencies as key members of the diabetes care team. The question on everyone's mind: What will the specialty look like 10 years from now?

AADE has launched an initiative designed to create a more sustainable future for the diabetes education specialty.

AADE President, Donna Ryan, RN, RD, MPH, CDE, FAADE and Immediate Past President Nancy D'Hondt, RPh, CDE, FAADE shared their insights around this key initiative.

In a recent interview with Endocrine Today, Donna Ryan said it best, "The diabetes educator's role is really important — to balance what the person with diabetes needs, and speak out for them about their access to care, the cost of medications, and integrating all the technology they need into their lives, because they live with diabetes 24/7."

Our goal is to support these key roles played by diabetes educators both now and into the future. Stay tuned for updates as we hone in on a strategic vision for the future to be revealed at AADE18.
