The rebranding of AADE to ADCES may cause some to roll their eyes even hearing the word “rebranding.” Some of you may find the extra letter too much of a tongue twister or too hard to remember after having said “AADE” for so long. Maybe I’m saying this because I’ve done all these things myself. I happen to be a pretty big skeptic.
In reality, what the rebranding is doing is helping us as the diabetes experts market all of our strengths. We’re not just spewing diabetes facts and figures, but we are down in the trenches with our patients and clients working out real-life problems with multiple chronic conditions and trying to sort out solutions. We’re about helping coach through those lifestyle changes to improve quality of life. We are part of a multidisciplinary team that sometimes spends the most time with that patient. We are influencing and changing lives for the better.
We need to make sure our employers know the hard work we do. ADCES has compiled an Employer Guide that I would encourage all members to use (see link below). Within this guide it goes through how the Certified Diabetes Care and Education Specialists (CDCES) work with more than just diabetes, but with prediabetes and many cardiometabolic conditions. CDCES also help to lower costs, improve quality measures and improve productivity. Ensure they know the amazing work you do everyday for your patients.
