Hello fellow MD ADE educators!

Many practices are just beginning to think about setting up group appointments for diabetes pateints while many others have been utilizing these types of appointments for quite sometime.

Would love to hear from those of you that have experience with the group appointments: pros/cons, lessons learned, etc.

Looking forward to learning how you all are doing!

Sincerely,

Lucia

Group Medical Visits

We are in the process of starting group medical visits with the Endocrinologists.  Although we are in regulated space, we are not billing for education--the practice is billing the E/M codes.  Does anyone have a suggestion of the best agenda for the visits.  We had two thoughts--to do the initial eval before the group visit or at a break after some group discussion.  What has been your experience?

Share Medical Appointments

I am really curious to see if any diabetes educators are doing shared medical appointments with the physicians that they work with and billing for both medical appointments and education.  These would probably need to be done in regulated space in order to bill for the education.  Is anyone doing this?

group appts.

I have been scheduling group appts. in an endocrinology practice for the past year. They are scheduled Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2-4pm. Different topics are covered such as wt. loss/carbohydrate counting, omnipod insulin pump, and medtronic insulin pump. I chose these topics because they are the greatest needs of my population in Frederick, Md. I have anywhere from 3 to 10 people in the groups. As nurse practitioner, I usually am able to bill a level 4 E/M visit because I do an individual eval. with the pt. first and then they attend the group. I have a nursing assistant and a topic facilitator with me during the 2 hour period. Kathleen Kissane CRNP,CDE
