Hi everyone! I’m Mayra Cantazaro, a family nurse practitioner, researcher, and certified diabetes care and education specialist from South Texas. I currently serve as Chair of the ADCES Research Committee. I feel incredibly fortunate to work with so many people who are passionate about asking important questions, sharing knowledge, and improving the care we provide to those living with diabetes.
My passion for research comes from the patients, families, and community I have been blessed to serve. Alongside my clinical practice in endocrinology, I teach in a Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program, where I enjoy mentoring future nurse leaders as they transform clinical questions into projects that improve patient care.
I believe some of the best research begins with a simple question we ask ourselves in practice: "There has to be a better way." My interests include diabetes technology, interdisciplinary models of care, quality improvement initiatives, and reducing health disparities through evidence-based practice and research. I hope to help make research feel approachable and encourage others to see that every great study starts with curiosity.
Outside of work, my favorite role is being a mom to my two little ones. I love traveling with my family, exploring new places, and making memories together. They are my greatest motivation and a constant reminder of why the work we do matters.
I'm grateful to be part of this community and look forward to learning from all of you as we continue to grow and advance diabetes research together.
