Bio

Currently serve as the Disaster Preparedness Lead with the Georgia Coordinating Body.

After graduating from nursing school in 2009, at the age of 55, I set-up an informal DSMES program at a safety net clinic in Metro ATL.  Then in 2011 co-founded the Diabetes Community Action Coalition (DCAC) with the Fulton County Board of Health. In 2017, expanded the service area of DCAC to include 13 Metro Atlanta counties and developed the community outreach program, DiabetesHelpATL. I am a volunteer with the DeKalb County Public Health's Medical Reserve Corps.

As member of the Georgia Diabetes Coalition since 2009, I am aware of and responsive to the needs of those living with, at risk for, or affected by diabetes who live in one of the 120 of Georgia's 159 counties.

I am to reduce health disparities and to promote health equity by addressing access and functional needs of individuals, families, and communities, by improving how systems and resources connect, and by promoting changes in health policy.

I welcome the opportunity to search for resources and/or multicultural diabetes education materials to support health educators.

Feel free to contact me directly with any questions, or if you would like to brainstorm solutions, related to resources and access to health care, especially for those who are underinsured or uninsured.

After 10 years of being an active CDCES, I applied for and received the Retired Status from the CBDCE. Although I am retired from the workforce, I remain engaged in local, state, national, and international matters related to diabetes prevention and management.
